I don’t know how to post a question on tumblr.  I’m having trouble deciding what my topic should be for my final Justice Studies paper.  What should I do?  I’m unable to pick a topic.

“For your final paper, you will examine a current topic that involves justice.  It could be an economic, criminal, human rights topic, or a topic that has an impact on our everyday world.  All topics must be approved by the instructor before writing the paper.  Your topic will address several core questions:  How is justice defined? Who defines it? To whom does it apply? What kind of institutions, norms, and practices will best ensure that justice is done?  Are there any strategies that could improve justice with respect to your topic?”

1. The Supreme Court

2. state v. national power

3. Darfur

4. Burma (Myanmar)

5. China/Taiwan

6. Iran

7. the First Amendment

8. capitalism v. socialism

9. these are merely suggestions

Thanks!  I was thinking about doing genocide in Darfar, but I think I’ve narrowed it down to:
- Comprehensive health care
- Freedom of speech in China
- Working conditions for minimum-wage workers

you could go with voter fraud/sham elections/DIEBOLD! You could relate the kinds of things we saw in Hacking Democracy to the sorts of things that happen in other countries (e.g. Iran) to show how the illusion of democracy affects the populous, and how dominant regimes are set up specifically to further their own growth, and define justice in ways that suit their own agendas.

Or you could use Diebold as an example for why certain aspects of public affairs should not be privatized, and bring in the current example of Arizona privatizing death row.

Good luck!
